Symphony No. 9

Videomapping installation / Illustrated Concert

Ílhavo 2024

Interpretation of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, together with the Orchestra and Choir of the University of Minho.
Videomapping installation created for 23 Milhas "Ilustração à Vista" Festival, in Ílhavo, Portugal.

The video piece served as a scenic backdrop projected onto the façade of the Vista Alegre Chapel, designed to interact with the music but not necessarily synchronize with the musical score. It was created based on the reading and analysis of the four movements that make up the symphony, as well as Friedrich Schiller's text, "Ode to Joy," explored in the final movement.
In the illustration, various elements of the Vista Alegre territory were freely and abstractly incorporated and explored: the materiality of porcelain, the textures of minerals and pastes, the transparencies and reflections of glass, the fluidity and movements of water, the power of fire, etc. These elements served as references for the creation of this piece.
